The ballot to pick up the MPs of the lower house seats for the Banadiri clans and northern regions have kicked off on Wednesday in Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The chairman of Federal Indirect Electoral Implementation team (FIEIT) Omar Amey and other Somali government officials have witnessed the opening of the lower house election in Mogadishu.

Two MPs, including the outgoing deputy speaker Mahad Abdalla Awad were elected as federal lawmakers  with majority votes in Today’s lower house voting which began in a police HQ the capital.

The electoral delegates of the Banadiri clans have voted for two out of their 7 seats in the lower House chamber of the federal parliament.

Somali and AMISOM troops have heightened the city’s security to thwart possible Al shabaab attacks on the election site, according to the police officers.
