Mogadishu 08,Nov.07 ( Sh.M.Network)-The
International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has called on the
government of Somalia to protect journalists there and remove bans
on journalists from doing their work.
In Somaliland, 24 journalists have been expelled for allegedly endangering
the security and stability of the region.
The journalists fled for Somaliland when conditions in Mogadishu
became too violent. The journalists were in Hargeisa, Somaliland
where the National Union of Somali Journalists along with the Somaliland
Journalists Association have arranged a house for journalists who
have fled the capital.
In addition, IFJ has called for Somalia’s Transitional Federal
Government to remove the ban on journalists preventing them from
reporting on any military action in Mogadishu and from interviewing
leaders of the Islamic Courts or opposition groups.
